Microsoft is not involved directly rather it is the www.sldnug.net community who is adding the features. They will be optional and in no way compete with Linden Labs, only supplement for those who choose to use it.

Re: Microsoft’s paws on OpenSim?

Try thinking about it this way. We've always been wondering if this trend is truly going to surpass fad, and with companies like Microsoft starting to seriously invest in the work being done it's confirmation that Metaverse technology is here to stay. It means, no, we're not wasting our time with projects like OpenSim and it really opens the field up for serious research and development.

Re: Microsoft’s paws on OpenSim?

"Paws on opensim" Are you suggesting Microsoft are a bunch of Werewolves?
That's rather cheeky of you.

Us Werewolves don't like being compared to Microsoft.

Wolfie!

Re: Microsoft’s paws on OpenSim?

You're certainly not the only one - and that's why they'll fail to implement this.

They tried the same trick before on the web with Microsoft Passport (now re-branded LiveID) and it failed miserable, no-one except M$ used it.

That's not to say the idea is without merit but never if M$ is in charge of it. The most obvious flaw in their plan is that this is really one of Linden Lab's future plans - to be the glue that binds virtual worlds together - and they're years ahead of M$. The day to REALLY worry is when LL sell The Grid to M$ and I wish that was less likely than it is.
