I suppose where their coming from is that in most recruitment campaigns, unsuccessful applicants will at least get a form letter saying 'thanks but no thanks'. In the case of this sort of positon a form email wouldn't be too difficult?

Again - thanks for laying out all the info - appreciated ;)

Re: What’s happened with the Big Linden Recruit?

Hello! While each individual is unique, "two people" isn't a representative sample out of hundreds and hundreds! Some others you didn't ask — alas! — did indeed receive replies.

I'll fill you in on some details of the reality... YES we've been actively recruiting...

Have you met our new Lindens? Like Neo (Liaison), Yoz (Tools & Web Program Manager), Siobhan (Data Warehousing), and shame on me for not knowing offhand who else has joined us.

I've personally been helping interview Technical Writer&Editors, so yeah, definitely some responses there.

WHAT ELSE?

Oh, Jeska, Doug, and Ian travelled all the way up to Canada to recruit! You can even find pictures here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/358786...

They received a wealth of resumes and again, we'll be contacting back on an as-appropriate basis.

beez Linden also shared her firsthand experiences with me re: Web and Ops positions, and the following certainly needs to be communicated —

If someone hasn't heard back, it may be because:

(1) They don't qualify for the job, in one or more ways. This could be because they don't meet the required spectrum of technical or knowledge skills we're looking for, and/or they're not a good, well-rounded, cultural Linden fit. The Tao of Linden explains our company principles: http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/07/25/the-tao-o...

(2) Nora Linden openly blogged last month that we're unable to reply to all: http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/12/13/a-word-fr...

It may not be easy to hear "no", or not hear back at all, but since fruitful employment is often a longterm committment and an adventure, we like to ensure it'll be a good pairing between both a new potential Linden and the existing Linden family which makes up our company, Linden Lab.

I hope this clarifies some details. T'care! :D
