I work at the ABC and we are currently looking at setting up in SL - we'd love to be a destination for Aussie SL users - be a meeting place and offer something distinctively Australian. AFTRS already have an island (Esperance) and I know Telstra are in the process of developing a cluster of islands.

I am an Aussie in Sydney and the first Aussie registered SL developer.
